Description
The Brand Park Verdugo Loop is a 7 mile route that combines both double and single track trails through the Verdugo Mountains. This route begins and ends in Brand Park, located in Glendale, California, and features panoramic views, exposed ridges, and historical information plaques. The Verdugo Mountains are a rugged mountain range that is part of the Transverse Ranges in Los Angeles county. The trail is lined with a variety of chaparral vegetation including laurel sumac, toyon, and buckwheat. About .5 miles into the first climb the route reaches a plateau with shaded sitting areas, benches, and infographic plaques explaining the park's history as well as the surrounding area. In another half mile the route reaches the Verdugo Motorway where it continues to ascend for two more miles across the spine of the Verdugo Mountains. From Verdugo Motorway you will have panoramic views including the San Gabriel Mountains to the east and Griffith Park to the west. The route descends via the Brand Motorway, a winding dirt road that will bring you back to where you started. WATERThere is no flowing water along this route and it can get quite hot, be sure to plan accordingly and carry what you need with you the entirety. PARKINGBrand Park features ample free parking during their hours of operation, 7am - 10pm.
