Description
Liberty Bell Arch is a great hike located near Boulder City, NV that features an arch that looks strikingly like the famous historic Liberty Bell in Philadelphia. This hike shares a trailhead with Arizona Hot Springs - another "must do" trek while you're in the area. The trail begins by following a wide, sandy wash as it passes beneath the interstate. Continue following the wash until you reach a signed junction. Here the path to Arizona Hot Springs splits to the left, while the Liberty Bell Arch Trail spits to the right and begins to drop into the gorgeous White Rock Canyon. You'll hike the beginning of White Rock Canyon until arriving at another signed junction where the Liberty Bell Arch Trail exits to the right. The trail grains elevation and climbs away from White Rock Canyon. You'll notice some abandoned equipment near the trail, most prominent of which is a large wooden sled-like container. This is left over from an old mining operation in the area. After the abandoned mining equipment, you'll reach a fantastic overlook. Although the arch isn't visible from here, you can see the remainder of the trail as it skirts through the terrain down below. Be sure to keep an eye open for Bighorn Sheep as they are often found in this area.Descend from this overlook and continue until you finally get a glimpse of Liberty Bell Arch. This glimpse of the arch's northern side is cool, but be sure to continue to the southern side where a much better view awaits. This is an out and back trail, so return to the trailhead the way you came. You'll notice that the trail does continue on past the arch for a ways - following it will lead to a view of the Colorado River where the trail then dead ends. Please note - this trail is closed in the summer due to the area's extreme heat. Plan accordingly.
