Description
The trail starts off fairly level working into some short, steady climbs. Soon after starting, you'll come to some really cool boulders, and you may be wondering how they got there as they look out of place. After some rocky sections, you'll start a nice descent into the trees for some much-needed shade on warmer days. Enjoy the downhill as you'll hit more uphill soon. The main climb does offer a few short downhill spurts to give the lungs a break. As you come to about the halfway point, plan to spend a little time out of the trees with good views of Pikes Peak and the large burn area to the south. If it's a warm day this will be the hottest part of the hike. After this open section, there's more climbing to do, but you won't be far from the top. After hitting the top, a super fun long descent lies ahead with a few opportunities for views of the mountains to the north. After the long descent, you'll come to the junction of the Colorado Trail (1776). At this junction, make a right. You'll descend for a bit more before a steady climb for a few miles back to the parking lot. The climb isn't steep, but it is noticeable after the long descent. Overall, this is a super fun hike, and I plan to head back to often.
