Awaawapuhi Trail

This trail has a slight incline in the beginning but get ready for downhill all the way starting at 4,120 feet and ending at 2,500 feet. You'll start off in fairly dense forest before the trail opens up near the end with some views that will amaze you. The open vistas along the way aren't even the best part! When you get to the end you'll have a spectacular view of the Awa'awaphul and Nualolo valleys. If you have the opportunity to get there early before anyone else, (and before the helicopter tours start) you'll feel like you are in a cathedral. Look down onto the valley floor and with binoculars you may be able to see terraces that were constructed by ancient Hawaiians. Make sure you bring plenty of water. The earlier you start the better. Remember that the return journey back is uphill all the way!
