Description
Pacific Crest Trail: Oregon Section F is a 105.3-mile point-to-point section of the 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). The route traverses the Cascade crest from Highway 242 to Highway 35 (Barlow Pass). The trail runs through the Mount Washington and Mount Jefferson Wilderness areas and features scenic mountain views, unique geology, and a lot of lakes. The trail is moderately rated, multi-use, and open to runners, hikers, backpackers, and horseback riders.Leaving Highway 242, the trail heads north through the Mount Washington Wilderness, crossing a terrain of recent lava flows and passing three volcanic peaks, Mount Washington, Three Fingered Jack, and Mount Jefferson.Mount Jefferson (10,502'), the second highest mountain in Oregon, dominates the landscape in the first half of this section. Even though Mount Jefferson is located in a remote and rugged area, it remains one of the most popular tourist destinations for hiking, backpacking, mountaineering, and photography. The lake-filled region north of Mount Jefferson includes Breitenbush and Olallie Lakes. Long-distance hikers often use Olallie Lake's general store to resupply on food and other necessities during their journey.
