4-Mile Loop

The trail begins at the parking area at the top of the levee of Travis McNatt Lake (two miles past the Visitor Center). After going down the steep hill to the levee, you climb a short distance on rocky trail to a singletrack trail that winds for about a mile through a beautiful hardwood forest bordering the beautiful Travis McNatt Lake. You then access a wider trail leading to the 70-foot observation tower that offers panoramic views of the lake and the Dismal Swamp. After climbing the tower, you follow another singletrack trail bordering interesting boulders and rock formations and arrive shortly at the mile-long boardwalk crossing the Dismal Swamp. After crossing the boardwalk, you make your way back up to the parking area via another beautiful trail bordered by interesting rock formations.
