Colorado Trail: Indian Creek Alternate

The Indian Creek Trail is a popular alternate to the Waterton Canyon stretch of the Colorado Trail. Not only is the Indian Creek Trail arguably more scenic, it is shorter in distance and follows actual single track trail rather than the gravel road of Waterton Canyon.From the trailhead you'll walk toward the equestrian campground to the start of the actual trail. The trail then descends gently downhill. You'll notice a fence line to your left with private property signs, please stay on the trail.In about a mile you'll come to and cross Bear Creek. The trail then leads into a small, open meadow area. You'll continue to follow the creek downstream, then cross it again. The trail then ascends a bit and leaves the creek.You'll ascend up to a ridge and follow it, with occasional good views. The terrain here is a bit rolly with a few ups and downs.The last bit of the trail descends a few switchbacks and leads down to a trail junction. From here continue straight for another .3 miles. The Indian Creek Trail then joins the Colorado Trail at Lenny's Rest. There is a bench here, making it a good place to rest.If starting a thru hike of the Colorado Trail you're now officially on track. If just hiking the Indian Creek Trail as an out and back, return the way you came back to the trailhead.
