Description
Treasure Loop Trail is a 2.4-mile loop hike at the west base of the Superstition Mountains. Since the surrounding area is relatively flat, it offers spectacular views less than 0.5 miles up the trail. An easy to moderate day-hike, Treasure Loop is a must-do for all outdoor enthusiasts. Family and pet friendly, incredibly scenic, rich with gold-mining history and the Lost Dutchman's Buried Treasure; there is a lot to see and do around the area. The trailhead starts on the southeast side of the day-use parking lot. There is a well maintained bathroom on-site, picnic areas for lunch, and a fountain to fill up your water bottle before you hit the trail. From the trailhead, there's a nice gradual increase in elevation for the first 0.5 mile; it transitions to a little steeper, looser section of the trail once you pass the junction to Jacob's Crosscut (a wonderful trail to take if you're looking for wildflowers). A little after a mile on the trail you'll reach Green Boulder, the highest point of the hike at 2,580 feet. From here you can choose to extend your hike by 1.5 miles and take Prospector's View Trail to Jacob's Crosscut, and loop back onto the bottom half of Treasure Loop Trail. If you choose to continue on Treasure Loop Trail, you'll head almost straight down the hill and back to the parking lot from Green Boulder. Keep an eye out of poppies, lupine, globemallow, and other varieties of wildflowers along the way, especially in March and April! Don't forget to bring water and sunscreen on this hike! The summer heat can be quite intense here especially from June through August, so this trail is recommended for October through May.
