Description
Hidden Springs Trail is located within Cedars of Lebanon State Park. This impressive state park contains multiple day use areas, picnic shelters, cabins and campground, a historic lodge, swimming pool, disc golf and much more. The area is famous for its eastern red cedar trees. Interestingly enough, these trees aren't true cedars but rather juniper, a close cousin. The area is also quite ecologically diverse and home to limestone glades, sinkholes and caves. While in the park be sure to check out Jackson Cave, which stretches for over a mile in length. Cave tours are often led by park staff. The 4.2 mile Hidden Springs Trail is an easy loop that takes hikers through the dense cedar forests and near some of the intriguing geological wonders of the park including an impressive circular sinkhole. The mellow trail begins near the junction of Cedar Forest and Stables Road. The trail is marked by white blazes, although these blazes are faint and there are several confusing junctions. If in doubt, continue straight through these junctions and keep an eye out for the next white blaze to confirm you're on the correct path. The main attraction of the trail is found near the halfway point. Here you'll find the deep round sinkhole for which the trail is named. In addition there are a few other intriguing rock features nearby, including another hole through which you can peer into the limestone passages below. After enjoying the sinkholes, continue onward as the trail continues along its loop and eventually arrives back to where you began.
