There and Back
Mendenhall Glacier is a really cool place to visit near Juneau. There is a huge lake, Nugget Falls is huge, a huge glacier, and there is a great chance to see wildlife. We were there in August so the salmon were running and there were bears everywhere. The bears would get right by you on the trails around the streams. It was really awesome to see them catching salmon. The glacier is really cool to see. There is also a large visitor center. Outside the visitor center there are tons of hiking trails through the forest and around the lake at the base of the glacier. There is a very large waterfall called Nugget Falls that you can hike to as well. The glacier and the lake itself is very beautiful and a lot of the trails are handicap accessible so anyone can come to see this beautiful setting! This is a great place that is right near town and you can spend anywhere from an hour to half a day here and not be bored at all. It was definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Alaska and I highly recommend it to anyone.
