Huckaby Trail

The Huckaby Trail offers a mix of scenery, from views of downtown Sedona and the prominent red rock formations, to lovely Oak Creek. The hike has a decent amount of elevation change, and Oak Creek must be crossed to reach the official end of the trail (the easy crossing will require getting your feet wet, but can be tricky if water levels are high). The creek is a great destination during the hot summer months.The trail begins from Huckaby Trailhead, off Schnebly Hill Road. There is a nice picnic area here as well, with several picnic tables and a great view. A short side trail also leads to a vista.From the trailhead the Huckaby Trail descends, crosses a dry wash, then ascends. At the top of the climb you'll have a great view over Sedona and your first glimpse of Oak Creek below. A bench makes this a nice area to take a rest.The trail then follows along the rim above Oak Creek for a while, before eventually making its way down to the creek. A good swimming hole is just downstream from where the trail crosses the creek. Speaking of the crossing, you'll likely need to get your feet wet unless water levels are very low. Conversely, if water levels are high the crossing can be potentially hazardous.From the creek you can see Midgley Bridge up above. This is where the trail ascends to, and the Midgley Bridge Picnic Area marks the end of the trail. Some may wish to skip this last stretch of trail that leads up to the bridge and instead just turn around at Oak Creek.
