Description
Getting to the trail is simple by taking Highway 198 and a left at North Fork Road. The last four miles of the road are dirt and extremely rough. A truck or all wheel drive vehicle is strongly recommended. The trail starts off at a well-marked sign, next to a parking area able to fit several cars. The trail is mostly visible, but is becoming overgrown as it is not regularly maintained. Several spots on the trail have fallen trees which take some navigating to continue. There is no "destination" at the end of this trail, except vistas of the North Fork of the Kaweah. After about 4 miles, the trail continues another 9 miles through similar terrain to Hidden Spring. If you are adventurous, you can venture off trail to several natural pools near the end of the trail, but doing so is not to be taken lightly as there are many steep spots. Also, in heavy rain, the pools may be visible, but not accessible. Nevertheless, the pools are a great sight and a great spot to rest. Be aware of wildlife. There are free range cattle in the area, as well as deer, lizards, and rattlesnakes.
