The usual federal wilderness area regulations and restrictions apply here. A wilderness permit is required to enter a Wilderness on the Mt. Hood National Forest between May 15 and October 15. Practice Leave No Trace (LNT) backcountry skills and ethics. Camp 100 feet from fragile areas; bury human waste at least 200 feet from water, trails, and campsites. This trail is usually covered by snow from November to June.

Point to Point
The Fret Creek Trail #456A (#456 on the USFS map) is a more difficult, but otherwise nice, trail that passes Oval Lake on its way to a junction with the Divide Trail #458. The trailhead has limited parking for about 4 cars but has no amenities. Restrooms are available at the nearby Fifteenmile Campground.
This trail begins at Fret Creek and ends at Divide Trail #458. From the trailhead, the Fret Creek Trail #456A climbs gradually and crosses Fret Creek three times. After its third crossing, the trail climbs more steeply for 0.5 mile to Oval Lake, then continues climbing above the west side of the lake for 0.2 miles to end at its junction with Divide Trail #458. There are views from here or you can go west on the #458 to Lookout Mountain or east to Flag Point Lookout and connections with other trails.
