Description
The Doe Flat Trail begins going downhill as a former road and connects with Buck Lake Trail, Then becomes singletrack heading toward the Devil's Punchbowl Trail. Buck Lake branches off the Doe Flat Trail at 1.5 miles in, and is a short 0.25 miles to the family-friendly lake with fishing. Devil's Punchbowl is a stunning glacial cirque with a challenging 1-mile long scramble from the Doe Flat Trail intersection at 3.3 miles in. Expect company and do not camp or have a fire at the world-renowned Devil's Punchbowl, probably the most photographed and visited part of the Siskiyou Wilderness. The trail from the Devil's Punchbowl down to Trout Camp on Clear Creek National Recreation Trail is an unrelenting series of steep switchbacks that is often not conveyed well on maps. Siskiyou Wilderness is botanically diverse and the area around Doe Flat Trail offers one of the greatest amounts of conifer species in North America (15 conifers).
