Loop
From the Little Bald Hills Trailhead Parking Area, follow the River Trail along the Smith River. Two easy flights of stairs usher hikers into a beautiful tunnel of foliage with occasional roots and rocks dotting the way. The trail continues descending along the water and soon arrives at a tranquil bridge over Cedar Creek. On the other side, the going is wide and smooth.Follow the flat Stout Grove Trail around a short loop through these awesome trees and sword ferns. The 44-acres of land that the grove grows on was donated to the Save-the-Redwoods League by Mrs. Clara Stout in 1929. Not only is the grove very peaceful, but occasional flood waters have prevented the growth of smaller plants and trees, allowing the redwoods to dominate the understory views. When you've finished the loop, just retrace your way back to the parking area. The grove can also be accessed from the Jedidiah Smith Campground during the summer, or even more easily from the !Stout Grove Trailhead if you're pressed for time.
