This rugged backcountry route begins and ends at the Mount Crescent Trailhead on Randolph Hill Road, just outside the village of Randolph. From the trailhead, follow the Mount Crescent Trail which climbs steeply through dense, mossy forest. The grade eases slightly as you reach the broad, wooded summit of Mount Crescent. Just beyond the summit, a short spur leads to a partially open ledge with limited but rewarding views across the northern White Mountains. From here, continue descending eastward on the Crescent Ridge trail to close the loop, rejoining the Mount Crescent trail for a short return to the trailhead.
The route travels through classic boreal terrain—cool, shaded forest with spruce, fir, and abundant moss. The footing can be slippery in damp conditions, and lingering snow or ice may persist into early summer. While the Ice Gulch ravine lies nearby, it is not part of this loop. Black flies are common in late spring, and water sources are limited higher on the ridge. For hikers seeking quieter day hikes in the White Mountains, Mount Crescent offers a short, challenging climb and a peaceful woodland experience.
