This longer loop of the Sunken Garden Trail begins along the shore of Lake Arthur in Moraine State Park. The first 20 feet can be pretty muddy if it has rained recently.
The trail is well-kept and begins along the lake where you can enjoy waterfowl and other types of birds. There are several nesting boxes along the way as well.
This trail has both a short and long loop. About 1/4 mile in you bump into the only significant incline but it can be a doozy for new hikers or the elderly.
After the climb into the hillside, the scenery is close with no real vistas. There are some great stands of pines that are definitely worth experiencing though.
This is a loop trail and will return you to the parking area.
***IMPORTANT*** This trail is supposed to be marked with PINK blazes according to the state park map. However, it has been remarked with DARK BLUE blazes. The trail also appears to have undergone some redesigning. There are some intersecting paths and offshoots but the blue blazes are easy to follow and well-marked.
