<p>This route begins at the Guanella Pass trailhead on the west side of the pass and ends at the upper Square Top Lake.<p>
<p>Start by hiking southwest from the parking lot on the Square Top Mountain Trail. Climb through the alpine willows, ascending 450 vertical feet over the first 1.1 miles. At 1.4 miles, stay right at the junction to continue toward the lakes. Reach the shore of the lower Square Top Lake at 1.6 miles. Continue hiking southwest along the trail, climbing another 280 vertical feet over 0.6 miles to reach the upper Square Top Lake at 2.2 miles. Expect a total of 1,038 vertical feet of climbing due to minor undulations along the trail. Retrace your steps back to Guanella Pass.<p>
