The Silver Lake Trail—also labeled as Upper Pond Trail on DCR maps—begins near the Visitor Center parking area in Breakheart Reservation in Saugus, Massachusetts. From the parking area, head southwest on Pine Tops Road and turn left onto Hemlock Road after a short distance. Shortly afterward, turn right onto the blue-blazed Silver Lake Trail. From here, follow the trail in either direction around the lake, then return the same way to the Visitor Center.
This easy to moderate trail winds through a quiet, wooded setting along the lake’s edge. Hikers will find views of the water through the trees, with benches and rest spots available along the way. The trail connects to interior routes like Spruce Path and the Link Trails, making it a flexible option for extending your hike. Open year-round from dawn to dusk, this is a reliable choice for low-elevation day hikes near Boston with water access and well-maintained paths.
