The Indian Creek Trail to No Man Lake begins at the Indian Creek Trailhead off Hwy. 287, south of Ennis, MT. From the trailhead, follow the Indian Creek Trail (Forest Service Trail #6328) as it climbs steadily into the Taylor-Hilgard Unit of the Lee Metcalf Wilderness. The route roughly parallels Indian Creek and later No Man Creek, passing through open forest and subalpine meadows. As you progress, the trail may become faint or disappear entirely, requiring careful navigation through off-trail sections or along intermittent user paths. Expect a few creek crossings along the way, which can be high early in the season.
The final push to No Man Lake involves a steeper climb into the upper basin. Located in a remote alpine cirque, the lake sits near treeline and offers expansive views of surrounding ridgelines. Backpackers and anglers will find opportunities for dispersed camping and fishing for native Yellowstone cutthroat trout. This route appeals to experienced hikers seeking solitude, challenge, and a high-country destination deep in Montana wilderness.
