Point to Point
This trail (white blazes) acts as a connector for a re-supply. It has to be hiked in order to claim it on the thru-hiker certificate. If you start from the west end, the trail starts by paralleling the Amtrak tracks and turns left at Rocky Branch. It follows the western edge of Rocky Branch, then crosses an old dilapidated concrete bridge.
Here, there is a spur trail to the Rocky Branch Waterfall (on the left). The trail climbs, steeply, and traverses hilltops and old roads. At approximately 2 miles, the trail leaves the Talladega National Forest and crosses into the Cahulga Creek Park. The park has bathrooms, a few picnic pavillions, and fishing.
The trail leaves the park (at a gate) and follows Mountain Road. If you don't intend to lodge (in town), then make sure you get back to the Pinhoti Trail before the gates close. It turns right (over the railroad tracks), then turns left (onto Bedwell Street). It crosses over Ross Street, then turns left. The official end/ start of this trail is in front of the Heflin Town Hall.
Heflin offers many options for re-supply and dine-in.
