Flesher Pass Trail begins at the Flesher Pass Trailhead just off Hwy. 279 and follows the Continental Divide Trail northward through Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest. From the trailhead, the route climbs steadily onto the divide, gaining elevation quickly before leveling into a long ridgeline traverse. At several points, the trail drops in and out of forested saddles, then returns to open slopes with far-reaching views. Around 1 to 3 miles west of the pass, seasonal creeks may offer limited water, but no reliable sources exist near the start—carry water accordingly.
This moderate segment of the CDT offers expansive views of the Scapegoat Wilderness and surrounding valleys. In July, hikers can expect vibrant wildflowers, along with possible sightings of elk or raptors soaring along the ridge. The route is best hiked from June through October, though snow may linger at higher elevations into early summer. Bear spray is strongly recommended, as both black and grizzly bears inhabit the area.
