Description
This fabulous hike is one of the many ways to experience Rocky Peak State Park. The Marr Ranch section is accessed via the Las Llajas Trailhead off Evening Star Drive. The first two miles up the Las Llajas Canyon Rd are a gentle hike on a road to a fork that splits to a private ranch to the left and access to Rocky Peak Fire Road to the right.Take a right at the fork and begin a steady climb up to a ridge. Once on the ridge, you turn and continue up the fire road. The views are spectacular here. You'll climb the most strenuous section here along the Rocky Peak Fire Road until you reach Chumash Trail - Simi. Chumash is a singletrack trail which will lead you back down to Simi Valley. You'll have to hike another 0.5 miles or so through a neighborhood on asphalt to return to Las Llajas Trailhead. Be aware, Rocky Peak has become very popular with mountain bikers so keep your eyes and ears open for fast moving bikers. You are less likely to encounter bikers once you get to the Chumash Trail - Simi section, but be alert and prepared to step off the trail as riders do occasionally descend on this narrow trail.
History & Background
The area around Marr Ranch is private property. There is a bee farm along the route so please respect the no trespassing signs.
