Description
The SARA Mountain-Wash Loop trail is a 1.3 mile loop through a small diverse mix of ecology inside Lake Havasu City's SARA Mountain Park. The park is located just south of Lake Havasu City, and remains a refuge of spacious mountainous desert environment covered in a vast network of single track trails that are great for hiking and mountain biking. With so much space available, visitors can usually chart their own course without much overlap with other trail users owing to the huge amount of trail options. The Mountain-Wash Loop begins at one of the gravel pull out parking areas, and begins by heading into the park's interior, first dropping, then slowly climbing, in the general direction of the mountain peaks. If you look closely, you might be able to spot some small figures atop the peaks, as the summit is a popular hiking destination within the park. The Mountain-Wash trail passes through narrow rocky wash canyons, and climbs up exposed slick rocky slopes to lower peaks.Visitors should be aware that there are nearly no trail signs or markings of any kind within the park area. Those looking to hike this route should be prepared with navigation, though one of the nicer features of this large wild area is that visitors can customize their own routes based on ability levels and distances desired.Hikers should be aware that trails are shared with mountain bikers, who have a tendency to fly by on the downhills.Parking and access to the park is free, however there are few if any amenities located at most of the parking areas, which includes no water or bathrooms. Visitors should be preapred for shadeless trails and full exposure to the sun and wind while hiking here.
