Ninigret National Wildlife Refuge

It is easy for hiking although because it is essentially a swamp, it puddles up quickly after a rain. The views over the pond are pleasing. It is likely you'll see people working the oyster beds. The oyster are very good and are shipped all over the country. Ninigret is a perfect location for birding, there is also a kayak-only launch accessed through the east parking lot. The flora is not overwhelming but the landscape is slowly being reclaimed by nature. However, it is very surprising to see the amount of wild flowers, and, even more impressively, the colors in autumn and winter. If you like winter palettes, this is the place for you.The refuge is adjacent to Ninigret Park which is managed by the town of Charlestown. They have facilities for soccer, basketball, disc golf, a dog park, observatory, etc.
