River View Trail

The River View Trail, signed by blue trail markers, is an out-and-back trail within the Parker Dam area's Buckskin Mountain State Park.Beginning at the trailhead area beside the park's entrance station, the River View Trail path follows several other trails as it crosses the protected pedestrian bridge over the highway. The trail is marked with blue blazes, making the route easy to follow through several forks and intersections.The trail heads up a rugged single track route, heading along a rocky landscape as it climbs to higher and higher views of the Arizona backcountry as the state park and highway become increasingly smaller in the distance. This area is dotted with abandoned mines - which other trails lead to. Eventually, at about 1.4 miles, the trail comes to an end at a bench on a lookout point perched above Highway 95 below. The immensity of the mountainous surroundings completely dwarfs all manmade construction in the vicinity.From here, hikers can retrace their route, or easily follow the Buckskin Loop Trail, signed by orange markers, to add a little variety to the hike without adding any additional distance.Descend back to the state park at a total distance of about 2.8 miles. There is no water or shade along the hike, and only a couple benches. Hikers should plan for full exposure to the elements. All amenities, including a market with water and food, is located at the state park area. Hikers are subject to all state park rules, including day use fees.
