Buckskin Loop Trail

The Buckskin Loop Trail is one of several trails inside Buckskin Mountain State Park.At 1.4 miles, the loop path is the shortest of the backcountry trails in the park. Beginning at the trailhead beside the park entrance station, the trail heads up a short incline before crossing a protected pedestrian bridge to the south side of Highway 95. From here, there are several intersections with other trails, however the park has clearly signed the Buckskin Loop Trail with orange arrows so that hikers can stick to the route easily.With about 220' of elevation gain, the trail follows a rocky single track route, climbing to a fork before slowly dropping back down. There is no big difference between doing the trail in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction, however going clockwise will save the scenic river views and bench overlooks for the later portion of the hike.A couple wooden benches and some trail signs are the only amenities along the hike. There is no shade, no water, and the majority of the trail is in full exposure to the elements. All amenities are located at the main park area near the trailhead.For those looking for a longer hike, there are several out and back trails that overlap with the Buckskin Loop Trail in portions, allowing hikers to head out and turn around based on the distance they feel like hiking.A complete trail map can be found at the park trailhead.The Buckskin Loop Trail lies within Buckskin Mountain State Park and is subject to all entrance fees.
