Eagle Point Trail

The Eagle Point Trail is probably Cathedral Gorge State Park's easiest trail to take in panoramic vistas over the badlands landscape of the park. A 0.8-mile out-and-back that can be made even shorter if the loop portion with interpretive signage was bypassed near the trail's beginning, the path is a relatively level gravel trail that traces one of the park's ridges and comes to an end at a bench perched overlooking the rock formations that tower above the park's flat basin. There is no shade along the trail. Vault toilets are located at the parking area. Be sure to fill up water at the park visitor center, as there is no water at the trailhead. The trailhead itself is located about 300 yards from the parking area at a dirt-turnout along the road in. Keep your eyes open, as it's easy to miss the sign marking the trail. Aside from the potentially hot hike, this trail is good for almost all levels of hikers, and it is ideal for those who would like to take in the views without hiking the much harder Miller Point Trail.
