North Trail

If hiking counter-clockwise around the Duck River Reservoir, this trail segment begins just before the CR-1669 bridge over the Duck River. It goes under the CR-1669 bridge, so you don't have to cross the road on this side of the river. The trail then winds along the river, which at this point is free-flowing, in much the same way as it does south of CR-1669. Large faces of exposed rocks and seasonal waterfalls are visible along the trail, making for a picturesque hike. When you arrive back at CR-1669, you have the option of crossing the road to the West Side Trail segment to extend your hike (up to 27 miles out-and-back), crossing the river on the CR-1669 bridge (watch out for traffic!) to return to the East Side Trail (a 15-mile lollipop loop), or returning back the way you came (16 miles out-and-back). Plans call to eventually complete a final section on the south side of the reservoir after the dam is completed to form a 20-mile loop around the entire reservoir.
