Description
This is a rugged and infrequently traveled trail near the Wilderness Boundary. As such, there is typically overgrowth along with dead fall necessitating a fair amount of walkarounds. The trail ends at a "lake" or rather a stock pond. However, there are beautiful views of the Gila Wilderness from the ridge line that you'll follow. The singletrack starts at the end of Sheep Corral Road #282. You can typically get a high clearance vehicle back to the corrals where the Sheep Corral Trail #231 starts. However, you can continue north on the road. The road will become progressively steeper and narrower until it will be virtually un-passable by a conventional vehicle. Eventually, the road will pass through the Snow Creek Trail #233 ("Forest Trail") trailhead and at this point, merge with and become Snow Creek Trail #233 ("Forest Trail"). Therefore, it is simply easier to start at the Corrals and hike the road to the trailhead or start at the Sheep Corral Trail #231 singletrack and connect it to Snow Creek Trail #233 ("Forest Trail") if you want to avoid doubletrack hiking. On the way up, you'll pass the Dorsey Canyon trailhead. Do not take this trail and continue up the now narrow and rocky road until it passes through an old fence. Just prior to the fence, you'll see singletrack to your left (west). Take the singletrack and follow it through the fence. At this point, you are on the trail. From here, it is an out-and-back hike that basically follows a ridge line.
