Description
Crows Roost starts at Chubb Overlook and meanders along the bluff above the Mississippi River. The tread is made up of rock and natural surfaces. The trail follows the bluff for about 0.2 miles before turning 90 degrees and descending steeply away from the river. The trail traverses woods that are made up of both mature and immature trees. A small grove of persimmon can be found on the top of the hill. This native tree produces a sweet fruit in the fall, but just make sure you wait until after a hard freeze before sampling. Crows Roost Trail descends a pretty steep hill before a junction with the Fishermens Trail along the lake. Going right on the Fishermens Trail takes you to the Paw Paw Trail which can be used as a return trail for the main trailhead at the Lower Shelter parking lot. There is a drinking fountain at the Chubb Overlook.
