This moderate route in Harriman State Park begins at the parking lot off Tiorati Brook Road and forms a forested circuit using the Red Cross, Beech, and Hasenclever Trails. From the trailhead, follow the Beech Trail south through rolling terrain before turning left onto the Beech Trail. Continue along Beech through narrow, occasionally overgrown sections—some junctions are faint, so keep a close eye on blazes and use a GPS or map. After crossing several small streams and occasional cascades, turn right onto a woods road that becomes the Hasenclever Trail. Along this stretch, you’ll pass the remains of the Hasenclever Mine, a wide depression with remnants of historic iron workings. The trail gradually climbs back toward the Red Cross junction, completing the route by reconnecting to the Beech Trail.
This quieter area of Harriman sees fewer visitors than other nearby day hikes and offers a blend of history, solitude, and water features. Best hiked in spring or fall for flowing streams and lower brush.
