Description
This hike starts by using Bluebird Trail #83 Trailhead. This will start on doubletrack and quickly turn into a singletrack trail climbing your way to Paradise Lake. As you reach Paradise Lake, there will be a spur trail heading north, right, just at the lake. This will lead to campsites at Paradise Lake. From here, continue on Bluebird Trail #83.At approximately 2 miles you'll reach a junction with Highline Trail #339, which is part of the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail. From this junction head north, right. A few hundred feet from the junction you'll reach a Spur to Bluebird Lake, heading west, towards Bluebird Lake. Back on Highline Trail #339, continue north. After Bluebird Lake, you'll go through a combination of forest and a nice large meadow before starting the climb up and around Green Mountain. As you quickly climb the mountain, don't forget to look back and look at the view of the lakes that you just left. After a few switchbacks, at approximately 3.2 miles, you'll reach the ridge that you'll hike on around Green Mountain. At 3.7 miles, you'll come to another trail junction. This junction has 3 trails intersecting and it is very well marked. Head east, right, onto Wolverine Lakes Trail #84. From here you'll descend for just over 0.5 miles before you get to one of the Wolverine Lakes. From here it is a short 0.25 miles to the Wolverine Cabin, at 4.7 miles total. This is a great spot to stop for lunch and to relax before descending back to the trailhead. From here, you continue on Wolverine Lakes Trail #84 for the next 2.3 miles until you reach the trailhead for Wolverine Lakes Trail #84. This trail takes you through the forest, over several bridges, winding down to Road 7086, the 7.1 mile mark. From here it is a short 2.4 miles back to your vehicle. From Road 7086, you'll find a trail directly across from the Wolverine Lakes Trailhead, on the south side of the road. This trailhead is not marked, but it is the trailhead of Clarence Ness Trail #82. This trail will descend initially, cross a creek, and then gradually climb your way back to the Bluebird Lake Trailhead. This trail goes through a well-protected forest nearly the entire way back to you vehicle. This is one of the quickest sections of this hike as, compared to all of the previous trails you have been on, it has very little elevation change. At 1.9 miles into this trail, you'll reach a well-marked junction. Continue to the north, right, to get back to the trailhead.
