Description
Mount Ashland Meadows is a 20.3-mile out-and-back route located within the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest near Ashland, Oregon. This route starts and ends at Callahan's Lodge, which is an excellent place to stop for a meal and/or to stay overnight, and is conveniently located off of Interstate-5, which makes it easy to access the trailhead. This trail traverses gently rolling terrain through a mixture of woods and meadows. In general, there is very little elevation gain/loss throughout the entire route, making it accessible to a variety of endurance levels. The trail is open for running, hiking, backpacking, and horseback riding. The route follows the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) which leads southwest from Interstate-5 / Callahan's Lodge towards the Mount Ashland Ski Area. You'll find seasonal wildflowers and peaceful meadows on the south side of Mount Ashland (7,532'), the tallest peak in the Siskiyou Mountains. The best time to catch peak bloom is during late July and early August. With this route you're never far from dirt or paved roads, so you can arrange shuttles and/or shorten or lengthen the distance as needed.WATERThere are some seasonal and perennial water sources along the trail. Visitors should always carry enough food and water to sustain themselves during the trek. Water that is collected must be treated before consumption. For updated information please see the crowd sourced water report which can be found at https://www.pcta.org/discover-the-trail/backcountry-basics/water/pct-water-report/.
