Confidence
This trail is generally open year-round. On rare occasions, snow or ice can make the gravel access road (Little Appelgate Road) hard to drive. In the summer, this trail can be a pretty hot rxh unless done early or late in the day.
Path Type
Point to Point
This short trail connects a trailhead (limited parking, no amenities) on Little Applegate Road with the Sterling Mine Ditch Trail. The trail climbs gently up Bear Gulch for 0.6 miles before making a sharp turn to the west and climbing easily or another 0.6 miles to its end at a junction with the ditch trail. Between February and May in wet years, there may actually be a small stream running in Bear Gulch. This trail can be combined with the Tunnel Ridge Trail or the Little Applegate Trailhead to make loop hikes of varying lengths.
