Snowbound until late June or early July.

Point to Point
The Elk Mountain Trail is part of the very popular Elk Mountain Loop. The Elk Mountain Trail can also be used with Trap Creek and Bench Creek to create a larger loop.
The first part of this trail parallels !Elk Creek though a large meadow. In the meadow, keep your eyes out for moose and elk since they tend to frequent the marshy areas. You'll also need to be aware of mosquitos in June and July since it can be very marshy in the meadows, so don't make your stops too long in those two months.
At the junction with the Elk Meadows, the trail changes to a gradual ascent. This section is an old road and and won't take long to ascend. At the top, you'll start to get some good views of the Sawtooths.
