There and Back
Franklin Mine and Cemetery is rich with Franklin's mining history. The mine was shut down after a fire suffocated 37 miners in 1910. The miners are also buried not too far away from the mine shaft, and just past the mine shaft are other ruins from the mine. The hike begins at a yellow gate near the open field where you can park, and it continues up the wide gravel road. Around 0.3 miles in there is a mine cart that says "Franklin" on it. There are also signs pointing left to the cemetery. About 0.6 miles in you will find the mine shaft that has a grate covering it and railing around it. The mine shaft is about 1,000 feet straight down. Past the mine shaft there are the gravestones of the ones who lost their lives in the mine. The trail from here gets narrow and wet. In 0.4 miles the first few gravestones will come to view, and others are scattered around the area.
