Point to Point
If you are staying in the Lake Crescent area in Olympic National Park and you aren't quite up for the more demanding trek up Mount Storm King, the hike to Marymere Falls is a short walk that pays off with a huge reward. The 90-foot falls is one of the most popular stops in this area (most likely tied with Sol Duc Falls), and for good reason. Falls Creek rushes through a gap in the cliff and makes an impressive two-stage drop, and when flows are high the entire amphitheater is filled with the sound of the cascade. The short trail to view the falls leads through a typical Northwest understory of ferns, moss, devil's club, and vine maples;magnificent old-growth cedar and western hemlock form the canopy. Near the falls you'll see two viewpoints, high and low, that are positioned perfectly for photos. This wide, mostly level trail is a very good choice for families with children who are up for the walk and modest climb. You'll have plenty of time to get this walk into your schedule before you grab some lunch and spend some time on the water at nearby Lake Crescent Lodge and beach.
