The Moments in Time Interpretive Trail offers a family-friendly, short interpretive walk that provides a nice sampling of the environment of Olympic National Park. Meandering along the shore of Barnes Point at Lake Crescent, spectacular views of the lake and Pyramid Mountain are guaranteed. The trail passes through multiple sections of old-growth forest, primarily populated by western redcedar, Douglas fir, bigleaf maple and grand fir trees. The trail also passes through a large grove of red alders and a few small meadows, one of which was the site of an early 20th century homestead. Ferns and moss are abundant, giving the ground and canopy a cool green glow. Several types of wildlife can be found, but birds and small ground mammals are the most likely to be seen. Interpretive signs are posted throughout the walk and provide historical, ecological, and geological information. The easy, 0.5-mile loop trail offers several entry and exit points, including Lake Crescent Lodge, Nature Bridge, and the Storm King Ranger Station, allowing for a stand-alone loop or linking with other trails for longer adventures. At each entrance point, pamphlet maps of the area are available.
