Description
Leave from the new parking lot of Dundee Rd in Jackson, NH--this will give you access to Doublehead Ski Trail, Old Path, and New Path trails (hike all three in a day for a sixish mile heart-pounding hike)! Leave the parking lot and head over to the trailhead over a small footbridge and find yourself on a doubletrack trail. Follow the blue triangle blazes for the ski trail up to the summit of North Doublehead mountain where there is also an enclosed USFS shelter for overnight camping. At 0.6 miles to the trail diverges to the right into a singletrack trail (Old trail) and to the left (Doublehead Ski Trail). Follow to the left and prepare yourself for some elevation gain and switchbacks to the summit for the next mile or so. This is the most gradual way to the summit of the three trails so enjoy and imagine yourself skiing down in the winter (especially if your hiking this in the hot humid summer of NH)! If you hike in the White Mountains of NH do your self a favor and visit the NH Fish and Game website and purchase yourself a Hikesafe card (cheap insurance should you need a rescue).
