Description
You can enter this trail at several places, but the most obvious are off Tunney just north of Devonshire, on Chatsworth just west of Tampa, or from Rinaldi / Upper Limekiln Canyon Trail. Starting at Tunney allows you to connect to Upper Limekiln Canyon Trail and thence the Palisades Trail and that network. Following a paved path, you briefly climb past a flood control dam, then mostly level beside a debris basin. There's a brief steeper climb (15%?) up to Chatsworth. Cross Chatsworth directly, or jog right to the stoplight at Tampa. There's also a dirt trail to the right that leads directly to the traffic light. Continue down a short descent to follow the canyon on the paved trail. (There is also a dirt trail just west of the paved trail, among the trees.) In this segment there are more trees, and in the northern part the creek starts to become more visible, conditions permitting. (If riding a bike, caution for the place where the trail leaves the pavement to the left, and crosses a metal pipe.) Cross under the freeway, noting that the creek is often above ground there, and continue a short distance to Rinaldi. Just before the steep climb to Rinaldi there is a narrow trail to the left that leads through a drainage culvert under Rinaldi; this trail and culvert connect to Limekiln Canyon Park and Upper Limekiln Canyon Trail. Return the way you came, or continue to Upper Limekiln Canyon Trail.
