Description
This route begins at the Vivian Creek Trailhead at the east end of the Falls Picnic Area and turns around at the summit of San Gorgonio Mountain. From the trailhead, cross the wide, rocky Mill Creek wash, then begin a steep climb of 1,000 vertical feet in approximately 1 mile to reach the San Gorgonio Wilderness boundary. At 1.2 miles, arrive at Vivian Creek Camp (7,100 feet). Continue along the canyon to reach Halfway Camp at 2.5 miles (8,100 feet). From here, the trail continues climbing steadily along the creek to High Creek Camp at 4.8 miles (9,200 feet), which serves as the last reliable water source. Beyond High Creek, tackle a series of long, exposed switchbacks climbing 2,300 vertical feet to the ridge. At 7.5 miles, reach the junction with the San Bernardino Peak Trail and turn right. Follow the trail across the rocky, exposed upper slopes to the final junction at 7.7 miles, bearing left to gain the summit of San Gorgonio Mountain at 7.8 miles (11,503 feet). Retrace your steps back down the Vivian Creek Trail to return to the trailhead.
