Gorman Falls

Gorman Falls, at just under 70 feet, is one of tallest waterfalls in the state of Texas. Located in Colorado Bend State Park, one of the state's most diverse and interesting parks, the waterfall is considered to be alive. Instead of shrinking, it actually grows bigger over time and certainly offers a unique site as water pours over mossy rocks. The waterfall itself, although not particularly powerful, is hundreds of feet wide and an entrancing site. Located about 1.5 miles from a small parking lot, travel through relatively flat desert landscape that is littered with cacti and shrubs before you begin your final descent down from the plateau toward the bed of the Colorado River and the waterfall. The hike can quickly become hot in the sun, so make sure to bring plenty of water. Keep in mind, the area around the falls is extremely delicate, so make sure you pay attention to signs and view the beauty from a safe and respectable spot. The hike is dog and family friendly, though the terrain is rugged and rocky for the duration of the trail.
