Woody Falls

Woody Falls is a fairly short hike located in Cooke City right outside the Northeast entrance to Yellowstone. I have never seen another soul on this hike. It holds snow late into spring making this a great summer or fall hike. It is also great when hot because it is mostly in the shade. You will turn south onto republic road off the highway and will quickly take a left on the dirt road. Go a block or so to the unsigned trail head. You will see the road quickly heads uphill. You will park at the bottom. You will hike a short distance up the road and see the singletrack turning off to the left. It is decently traveled and not hard to find. You will be traveling steadily uphill the entire way through the gorgeous green forest. After a little more than a mile you will reach the edge of a canyon and see the falls. The hike pooped out a few of us! The views behind you of the Absaroka Mountains are amazing! You will return back the way you came. If you still have energy when you hit the dirt road it's a short quarter mile hike to another small waterfall. The fall is interesting as the water goes through a small arch at the base. I thought it was worthwhile to see and it was very pretty.
