Description
This trail is a steep, 6.6-mile loop located in Great Basin National Park. The trail begins from the Baker Creek Trailhead and climbs up the Timber Creek Trail. The trail ascends via switchbacks passing through beautiful aspen groves and pine forest. After about two miles of climbing you reach a beautiful sagebrush filled alpine meadow featuring scenic views of Pyramid Peak. This moderately challenging loop is open to running, hiking, and backpacking. DESCRIPTIONThe Timber Creek Trail gains 1,271 feet within the first 2 miles as it ascends steeply from the trailhead. Begin by following alongside Baker Creek. Veer right at the first trail junction to remain on the Timber Creek Trail, which is now parallel to Timber Creek. At the next junction, take the South Fork Baker Creek Trail and descend gently towards Baker Creek. Turn right at the Baker Creek Trail junction and follow it back to the trailhead. BAKER CREEK TRAILHEADThe Baker Creek Trailhead is located off of Baker Creek Road and features a small parking area, vault bathroom, garbage cans, and access to three different trails: South Fork Baker Trail, Timber Creek Trail, and Baker Lake. CAMPING AND PERMITSThe Great Basin National Park visitor center offers free backcountry permits and registration, which are strongly recommended for backcountry camping in Great Basin National Park. Find out more about camping rules and regulations in the park at https://www.nps.gov/grba/learn/management/backcountry-regulations.htm.
