This route begins at the Hidden Pond Park parking area near the tennis and handball courts in Islandia, NY. From the trailhead, follow the main dirt path as it heads into the forested interior of the park. The route follows a mix of narrow singletrack and wider multi-use paths, occasionally intersecting with mountain bike trails—stay alert and yield as needed. At several points, unsigned junctions and side paths appear; continue along the more well-worn primary trail to stay on route.
Most of the terrain is gently rolling, but some short hills and rooted sections provide a bit of variety. Expect seasonal changes—mud in spring, overgrown brush in summer, and a quieter experience in cooler months. Dense tree cover offers shade, and the mix of hardwoods supports local birdlife and wildlife viewing. Dogs are welcome on leash, but insect protection is recommended in warmer months due to ticks and mosquitoes.
The trail makes a broad loop through the park’s forest, returning to the starting point after a scenic and tranquil walk.
