You can drive to the Rat Lake Trailhead for a short route to Rat Lake or park closer to the highway and extend your hike by heading up Squaw Creek Rd.
At the trailhead, there is a short, steep singletrack section where the road has fallen away from the hillside. After that, you are back on dirt road up to the lake.
