Description
The Laguna Creek Trail circles the North Laguna Creek Wildlife Area, offering hikers the chance to explore the area on mostly flat trail of various types of terrain.Beginning at North Laguna Creek Park, paved paths follow the creek in either direction. Heading west, the trail hugs the edge of a residential road as it weaves along the creek, overlooking the wildlife area. There is no admittance to the wildlife area, and the birds and waterfowl one might spot in the area vary by season. Franklin Blvd marks the end of the trail, where hikers can stick to the sidewalk and cross the creek before picking up the gravel trail on the opposite side heading back in an eastward direction.Along the way, there are a few interpretive signs offering insight to the cycles of the wildlife area. The trail tends to feel more suburban than wild, as children and families from the neighborhood might be seen riding the multi use paths on bike. Just opposite the park, a bridge offers hikers the chance to return, trimming about half the distance off of the larger four mile loop. Continuing on, the path wraps around some homes before a small cement spur trail heads into the creekbed and turns to gravel before offering a paved path across the bed. This eastern section of the hike is more heavily littered and less scenic, so those looking to keep to a shorter hike should stick to the western loop. After crossing the creekbed in a clockwise direction, the path joins up with the sidewalk for the final stretch before returning to the park.Aside from a few benches, there are no other amenities like water or bathrooms located along the path. Both of those can be found in the North Laguna Creek Park. The park area is open from sunrise to sunset, with no fees to park on the street along it.
