Description
Since 1971, the Rideau Trail Association has established, maintained and encouraged low-impact, self-propelled use of the Rideau Trail, a 387 km network of interconnected trails between the The Rideau Trail (RT) goes right off the Cataraqui Trail: Central Segment, down a steep slope and looping south up a rocky hill, with a view below right of the RT 2 km back on the CT. The RT veers left and continues southeast and then east over rough, rocky and wooded terrain, with a view right over Stonehouse Lake, to a junction with the Upper Rock Lake BL 2.7 km from the CT. The RT goes NE in woods and meadows, ascends, goes left (NE) passing a beaver meadow, and, after another 300 m and a steep climb, meets a track and follows it for 200 m. It goes east from the track, then northeast with Poole Lake left and Warner Lake right, follows a cart track, and later goes left (west) on a cart track to a pleasant open area at the east end of Lindsay Lake. From the swampy shoreline the RT goes right (northeast) past ponds, follows a cart track uphill, enters woods left (east) and passes an old stile. A stream right 1 km after the stile disappears underground after 100 m in karst topography. The RT joins a track in woods, where the 'Old Bedford Road' goes left (north) to the Cataraqui Trail: Central Segment and eventually to Bedford Mills.
