Loop
The route begins and ends at the Lake Louise lakeshore, at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, forming a loop past Lake Agnes and the Plain of Six Glaciers.
From the lakeshore, take the Lake Agnes Trail up through the forest to Mirror Lake at 1.6 miles. There is an option here to take the spur up to Little Beehive point for views of the area. Continue to Lake Agnes and its teahouse at 2.2 miles, having climbed 1,283 vertical feet. From the teahouse, turn right and climb around the lake toward the Big Beehive, a rocky overlook above Lake Louise, at 3.3 miles. At Big Beehive saddle, there is another option to take the sput up to The Devil's Thumb.
Crux: From the Big Beehive saddle, descend and join the Highline Trail, a high, rocky traverse below Mount Whyte and Mount Niblock with real exposure and fall consequence in a few spots — move deliberately through this section rather than treating it as a connector. Continue on the Highline Trail to the Plain of Six Glaciers Trail junction and take the trail to the teahouse.
To return, descend from the Plain of Six Glaciers teahouse and join lakeshore trail back to the start; this leg is longer but far gentler than the climb in.
